International Scholarships

KNU Scholarships

Undergraduates

Object of Provision : Foreign Undergraduate Students

  • - Freshmen and transferring students may be exempted from paying 100% of the entrance fee, 100% of the tuition fee and 50% of the university support fee
  • - Freshmen students don't need their GPA score for the scholarship
    - Continuing students with a GPA of 3.0 or higher from the preceding semester are eligible for the exemption of tuition fee only.

Scholarships for Academic Excellency

  • A. Qualification: Students who have acquired S-TOPIK level 4 to 6 and meet the following requirements.
    • - New students: Acquired 2 years after entering the university
    • - Transferring students: Acquired 1 year after entering the university
  • B. Amount of Scholarship: 50% of the university support fee
  • C. Period of application
    • - First semester : Jun. 1st~jun.30th
    • - Second semester : Dec. 1st~ Dec.31st
  • D. Method of payment
    • - Payment is done once while in school
    • - If the student receives another scholarship grant from a different program which does not exceed the amount of the tuition fee, he/she can still acquire the scholarship for academic excellence. However, if the other scholarship grant is more than the amount of the tuition fee, the student can acquire the academic excellence scholarship in the succeeding semester
    E. Restriction of Scholarship
    • - A student who entered the university with his linguistic ability is not eligible for the scholarship

  * Scholarships does not apply for students enrolled at Professional Graduate School

1. Scholarships for Promotion of Research

  • A. Qualifications
    • - Continuing students who have acquired a GPA of 4.0 or higher from the preceding semester and has able to meet one of the following requirements:
      • Students who have acquired an a TOPIK level 5 or higher
      • Students who have won awards at domestic or foreign academic symposiums as the primary author of their thesis during their master’s studies, or who have published one or more papers in domestic or foreign academic journals (SCI, SCIE, academic journals registered to Korean Research Foundation and pre-registered to Korean Research Foundation) as the primary author
  • B. Amount of Scholarship: 100% of the tuition fee
  • C. Period of Scholarship: Students could receive scholarship for the next two semesters after submitting their qualifications
  • D. Limitation of Scholarship: Students who had acquired an S-TOPIK level 5 or higher can apply and receive the scholarship while enrolled in the university and is only applicable once for two semesters.
    E. Period of applicaton
  • - For the 1st semester: during the period of announcement in December of the previous year
  • - For the 2nd semesters: during the period of announcement in June

2. Scholarships for International Cooperation

  • A. Qualification: All new students
  • B. Amount of Scholarship: 100% of admission fee and tuition, and 50% of university support fee
  • C. Period of Scholarship: One semester


Selection and Payment Procedure for Scholarship Recipients

1. Screening Procedure for Scholarship Recipients

  • - Undergraduate: Students’ GPA score will be taken into consideration based from their academic performance of the preceding semester (list of new students and transferring students will come from the Admissions office; list of continuing students will come from the International Affairs office)
  • - Graduate: Students’ GPA, TOPIK score, recommendation letter from the department chair and published dissertation will be taken into consideration based from their academic performance (list of new students and transferring students will come from the Admissions office; list of continuing students will come from the International Affairs office)

2. Scholarship Granting Procedure

  • - Scholarships are usually awarded in the form of a tuition waiver in advance. Otherwise the amount granted is transferred to the bank account of the recipient.
  • - Internal scholarship for the exemption of tuition(including tuition fee and university support fee) is only given upto the tuition range. If the total amount of scholarships does not exceed 150% of the tuition, multiple awards are possible including internal and external scholarship.

Restrictions on Scholarship Granting

  • Scholarship awards are restricted to students who have class withdrawal or temporary leave of absence from the university and students who received disciplinary sanctions
  • *The rules above are applicable for students who entered the university from the academic year of 2014
