Two major mountains are located near Gongju (Charyeongsanmaek and Gyeryongsan), and Geumgang runs through the city from east to west. Several tributary rivers such as Yugucheon, Jeongancheon, Daekyocheon, Jemincheon, and Hyeoljeocheon meet here.
Gongju has one nationally-managed river (Geumgang) and one locally-managed river (Yugucheon). The combined length of these rivers reaches 1,159km.
